Mission: To educate, provide assistance, and help promote awareness regarding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Lots of work, little time!
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) exists due to many variations of one simple occurrence, trauma. There are many charities that help most of these types of PTSD; however, they are made to help different groups of people individually: women, minorities, children, veterans, seniors, and so forth. These organizations are doing great work, but why focus on individual types of PTSD? Instead, unite all survivors of PTSD with a common cause. Then, in break-out groups, focus on individual types of trauma. Thus, allowing better understanding of the underlying causes and how to combat the symptoms, both as a general disorder and in specific situations. This is the best way to completely understand the biological change in our brain: with understanding comes help!
PTSD Survivors of America was founded by Iraq and Afghanistan War Veteran, Eddie Bryant, who upon return from both wars was treated for PTSD by the Veterans Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio. He thought the care was simply too standardized. He also felt everyone was different; therefore, PTSD cannot be treated one way for every person. PTSD Survivors of America is trying to treat the biological change that takes place in the brain much differently than the way modern medicine practices. As author, veteran, and FOX News Radio talk show host (who is also a supporter of PTSD Survivors of America), Boone Cutler says, "PTSD is not a psychological issue; it is a biological change that is treated through psychological means." There have been multiple studies performed through various medical programs that prove PTSD survivors have a change in the areas of their brain which determines the fight or flight responses. This change in brain activity is not just a psychological change, but a complete biological alteration of certain areas of the brain that affects everyday behavior and thought pattern. Many doctors see this differently than the people who actually cope with it. We at PTSD Survivors of America are not doctors; we are like you, survivors!
Our organization wants to emphasize the idea that we do not focus directly on one type of trauma. Yes, military men and women are coming back in swarms with this biological change due to combat exposure; therefore, they are truly getting the majority of focus in America. However, we want everyone to know that ALL PTSD survivors are in our mission objective. If you're a survivor of rape, violence, child abuse, natural disasters, accidents, and or any kind of trauma, you are the reason we exist. Please, look through this site, and we hope that you're inspired to seek help.
Our organization is currently looking for people to help out! As of now we are in need of a website designer to assist in professional website design. Also, if you would like to volunteer your time to tell people about our organization, and PTSD, please let us know and we will record your activity of volunteerism into our books for future records!
We believe with your help we can be the most successful way to help people coping with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder!
